When I start my car and put it in drive there is a loud drumming sound coming from the back 2001 neon just had all new struts put on and now the noise is getting louder. Any Ideas? Have you owned it for a while?
It seems to be less or not at all when the weather is cold. The noise sounds like a small slow motor.
Hi Jon, It's possible either the water pump or alternator bearing is starting to fail but you'll need to get it diagnosed to be sure. The sound is somewhat quieter, but still noticeable and appears to be coming from near the coolant reservoir.
I recommend having a mechanic place the car on a lift and take a look underneath. It sounded similar to that of someone blowing a blade of grass between their lips, except a lot louder.
I think what you may be hearing is a worn motor mount. It's very common for those to wear out and cause all kinds of noises when hitting bumps.
